  • Futurama, Vol. 1
starring Billy West, John Di Maggio, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche

It seems unlikely that anyone reading this blog isn't deeply familiar with the hilarious saga of Futurama, but as the series has finally returned with new episodes on Comedy Central, I thought some of you may want to avail yourselves of the great prices Amazon Marketplace sellers have on the earlier volumes. Each and every episode of every season comes with writer/cast commentary that I've sometimes found just as entertaining as the stories themselves.

If I could only watch one series over and over for the rest of my life, it'd probably be Futurama.

  • Party Down: Season 1
starring Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Ryan Hansen, Martin Starr

Party Down is the funniest American show I've seen in years. The story of the most incompetent, vulgar and apathetic catering company in Los Angeles -- all of whom are aspiring or failed actors, writers or entrepreneurs -- this show is made for fans of The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm

    Highest possible recommendation.

  • The Prestige
starring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, Piper Perabo

With The Dark Knight being the most popular film that isn't Avatar or Titanic and everybody excited for Inception, now is the perfect time to familiarize yourselves with Christopher Nolan's other masterpiece, The Prestige. Ostensibly a beautiful period story of battling illusionists, I prefer to think of this startlingly excellent film as Batman vs. Wolverine.

Award-winning actors Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson star in THE PRESTIGE, the twisting, turning story that, like all great magic tricks, stays with you. Two young, passionate magicians, Robert Angier (Jackman), a charismatic showman, and Alfred Borden (Bale), a gifted illusionist, are friends and partners until one fateful night when their biggest trick goes terribly wrong. Now the bitterest of enemies, they will stop at nothing to learn each other's secrets. As their rivalry escalates into a total obsession full of deceit and sabotage, they risk everything to become the greatest magician of all time. But nothing is as it seems, so watch closely. And be prepared to watch it again and again.
